Mastodon is anti-Christian and suppresses academic/theological freedom and freedom of speech.
Two of my posts that were federated to Mastodon (this one and this one) were removed by the powers-that-be over Mastodon (so much for it being 'decentralized'; there's clearly a dictatorship over the service) because apparently quoting and interpreting the Bible violates their "No racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, xenophobia, or casteism" policy.
And I haven't even started to express my own opinions about homosexuality; I've merely given an interpretation of what the text of the Bible says based on my experience and study and knowledge of Roman culture and history, in counter to another preacher's statement that he believes the Bible has no such condemnation. Apparently I'm not allowed to challenge what makes people comfortable.
Rather than allow readers to make up their own minds about what the Bible says and hear both sides of an interpretive argument, Mastodon chooses to suppress academic and theological freedom and freedom of speech. The latter is a fundamental human right that must necessarily include speech one doesn't like; if you think I'm wrong, then you have the equal right to post a reasoned rebuttal about why you think I am wrong. That's the foundation of what the Internet is all about.
That's how it's supposed to work. Instead, Mastodon.social suppresses opposing viewpoints that make them uncomfortable instead of engaging in legitimate debate. They have no problem with making Christianity a punching bag while openly allowing competing ideologies (including truly hateful ones) to flourish in the name of making people comfortable rather than encouraging them to think for themselves.
Just like the whole of mass media, Mastodon wants to dictate to you what you should think through its moderation policies that suppress open discussion, especially when said discussion challenges the status quo of what they believe to be "right" thought.
