In reply to: Rabid Disney adults harass, doxx widow over her Magic Kingdom videos

At the risk of getting my own head chopped off, I'm chiming in.

I am a widower, and I'm in the parks multiple nights per week. You might have seen me on a Sunday or Monday night in Fantasyland channeling Sorcerer Mickey "conducting" Happily Ever After (turns out I'm not the only one; I met a couple this past Sunday night doing the same thing; found out in the process there was a custodial Cast Member who did it all the time with a wand for guests). I make videos in the park that I post in 'thestudyofstarlight' on YouTube—mostly 360° ones of rides and shows. I'm there that often because otherwise I would be a hermit in my apartment. I go to church with a lot of these cast members, I talk to and try to provide encouragement to many of them because it's often a thankless job and sometimes a smile or thank you for helping "make the magic" goes a long way. I grew up near Disneyland and spent nearly every evening there in the late '90s, often bringing my work with me to do over in the Harbor Galley when it was empty during the week before "Fantasmic!" shows and getting to know many CMs. I moved to Florida before DCA broke ground and it just became natural to hang out with CMs in WDW, especially after losing my wife who was a HUGE Belle fan (yes, I was her Beast). I spent many evenings in Disneyland with a larger group listening to the late Rod Miller on the piano at Casey's Corner as he wound up his last set before the evening parade.

However there are certain ethics that many "Disney Adults" fail to follow: You won't see me in any of my videos outside of pure chance and that's intentional; I'm more interested in sharing an experience as it unfolds than promoting myself. I have a regular 9-to-5 job and therefore don't need your money and won't ask for it (there's also a strict no soliciting policy in Disney Parks). I try to stay out of the way because I have an AP and can always come back while there are kids and other guests who may be having their once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I'd be an @$$hole to ruin by inserting myself or whatever gear I'm using in their way and insisting on being an "entitled Karen" (and what gear I have is bare minimum). I don't disclose the names of CMs performing (a practice I've had since my time in Disneyland) because they deserve some privacy outside of the characters they portray. If a CM or (usually) a lead asks me to lower a monopod because it's too tall (it's happened once), I do so without throwing a stink about it. I find being cooperative and considerate opens a lot of doors and provides a lot of favors down the road. I'd be happy to provide a contact card, if you ask me for one, but I'm NOT going to force one into your hands to try and be an "influencer" (I don't like that term, honestly).

In these shoes, my response would be to point out, "hey, there's a kid here who may never have the chance to watch this again; could you back up out of the way for just a few minutes so this kid can enjoy his once-in-a-lifetime chance? You and I are pass holders, we'll have plenty more chances the kid won't have."
