Fixing connection issues between Nikon P1100/P1000/P950/P900 cameras and the SnapBridge mobile app

If you are having issues connecting your camera to SnapBridge on your phone, do the following (this is on a P1100, should be the same on the P1000/P900/P950):
  • Open the menu and choose the network page, then "Wi-Fi > Network settings > Auth./encryp."
  • Your camera is likely defaulted to "WPA2-PSK/WPA3-SAE" or "WPA3-SAE". Change this to "WPA2-PSK-AES". Do not use WPA3 or any combination thereof; use only WPA2.
  • Tap "OK" and then the "Menu" button to exit the menu.
  • You should now be able to connect to your camera from your phone over wi-fi.
The P1100 (and likely the P1000, P900, and P950) defaults to WPA3, which is enterprise-level encryption that the iPhone and most Android devices do not support (more specifically, they don't support WPA3 in combination with SAE). The connection on the camera side has to be set to WPA2 or Open ("Open" is not recommended as it will expose your camera to anyone on the same network without any wi-fi password).

Also make sure Bluetooth is turned on at both ends (camera and phone), as the app will first use Bluetooth to find the camera and obtain the network settings for the Wi-Fi connection.

I only found this out when I was trying to connect to my iPhone 17 Pro Max and finally got a dialog indicating that WPA3 was not supported.

I also suggest on iPhone that you turn OFF the wi-fi before trying to connect to the camera. The iPhone will turn it back on when trying to connect to the camera, only this time it should see the camera first before any other hotspot.

EDIT: One more thing—under "Choose connection", make sure it is set to "Smart device" (the default) and not "Remote control". Remote control is for the ML-L7 remote and both cannot be used at the same time.
